Asoka Esuruoso is co-owner and founder of The.Word.Berlin a co-working, creative arts, and event space in the center of Berlin. Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, she is also an inter-disciplinary filmmaker, fine artist, and writer. Asoka studied at Columbia University, the Maryland Institute College of Art, and the Freie Universität Berlin. She is co-founder of the empowerment project Arriving In The Future, which curates performances by artists and musicians of Color across Berlin and Germany. As part of Arriving in the Future she and co-editor Philip Khabo Kopseoll published an anthology of Black German history called Arriving in the Future: Stories of Home and Exile. Her films and writing have been screened, exhibited and published in newspapers, anthologies, and educational texts in the US and Germany and often deal with the themes of sexuality and cultural memory.
